Resort Update: Painting…everything!

Twin Cedars Red should be the name of a real paint color. I’m not actually sure if this color has a name but it is so prominent here that I’m seriously thinking of sending in a suggestion somewhere.

Resort Painting

Projects are endless and painting has certainly been no exception – I think I’ve heard B say on several occasions, “I just want to be done with painting.” And just when he says that he is, something else seems to require a fresh coat.

Let’s start with that red…the fence that separates the resort and the boat access.

The before is a little rough. This is the view from the access.

Yes we had a little over-spray, but the vegetation didn’t mind a bit…says it’ll outgrow it.

Using a paint sprayer for this was definitely the fastest way to go with most of the time spent on prep and clean up.

The docks got a nice little facelift this season…though it seems to me that this might be a yearly task. This strip gets a lot of traffic…can’t imagine why…just look at that view.

The outdoor lamp posts were spray painted with black. I’d like to figure out how to take a photo at night that really captures how cozy it looks with these glowing.

And because everyone needs a little break…and to show what a great big tough guy he is…

The purpose of these photos is so you can see the lamp posts…see nice right? And the ducks…my how they’ve grown! Eating out of our hands now, but you can see mama is still on the look out.

These lights are set on a timer for shut off but still require a manual turn on. I learned how to do it during the great mosquito hatch of early June. And after almost getting eaten alive while on this little trek to the obscure wooded location of the switch – I will likely decline future volunteer expeditions, unless of course I’m fully protected by a full body (and head) netted jumpsuit.

But just like that they were gone in late June, just as B said they would. That doesn’t make our southern visitors use bug spray any less, however. I find it a little funny now when I see the fog of spray…if only they knew. Maybe I’ve actually become immune to them? Probably not, but wouldn’t that be nice?

Like the docks, all of the decks were slathered too, though we strayed from our traditional red, it’d be too much I think…especially since we have 8 of them. B was certainly ready for this project to be done. We used high quality paint stain that says it’ll last for 10 years. We’ll be putting it to the test, I’m sure.

After a good power wash. I’m beginning to understand the amazing capacity of a decent power washer. I love this thing! Check out our old house from when we re-stained our quarter log siding.

All of the rails were brushed on but the foot surface was sprayed then brushed over and completed with 2 coats. I’ll have to do a future post with how it holds up.

The cabin doors are all wood – perfectly rustic and no need for paint. However the motel room’s doors really needed to be freshened. They were the standard pre-primed metal ones.

The prep started with sanding. These doors have been in use for many years and had lots of prints, grime and gunk – so a simple washing wasn’t going to do. Pulling them off their hinges, filling in some dents and sanding again was just what they needed.

I’m so excited about this color! The dark, charcoal grey with the red and white is perfect and considering the high traffic use, shouldn’t have any issues with dirty build up and stains.

I’d really like to do something different with the gold/brassy door knobs, but that’ll be another time. For now these doors look so much better!

Finally the resort road signs. Because we are in such a private, secluded location, it’s important to have road signs that shine, literally. The white was given a new coat and reflector tape was applied.

These things are like a beacon in the night. Just what we need for the weary traveler.

This sign means – come on in, relax and stay awhile. We want you here 🙂

So I giggle to myself because B thinks all the painting is done for the season, but our home remodel will soon commence…let the games begin – I can’t wait!

After a longs days work…I’ll never be able to convince him to wear gloves so multi-colored paint hands will just have to do.
