Easy Spring Welcome Wreath

by Meghan Klave Filed Under: the archives

Earlier this week I posted about our Walkout Basement Project that guest featured the welcome wreath I made. I have a sick awesome obsession with wreaths…Just check out my Inspiring Crafts Pinterest board and you will notice there are plenty of them. Aren’t they just so inviting? Anyway, it seemed like an innocent enough, easy Sunday morning project that wouldn’t take up too much time…

Start with a basic twig or vine wreath – you can pick these up at Hobby Lobby.  I think I paid about 5 bucks for mine, but they can range on up to $50. Since this was my first wreath project I really wanted to keep it cheap and simple – I mean what if it really sucked? Because let’s be honest here, I am really good at coming up with ideas and think it’s going to be soooo awesome, but the finished product is not how I pictured it…there will be more on that later…

I chose 2 letters for this project – T C – Twin Cedars, but I’ve seen many with only 1 letter – I think whatever tickles your fancy. Each letter was about $3 and I paid around $4 for the twine. I like the fact that it isn’t uniform with pieces sticking up all over…gives it a rustic feel. Set it with some glue and start wrapping baby. This seems like a simple enough task, but it did take me awhile, however the movie Ghost was on in the background, I was completely entertained…timeless! I swear I cry every time. I miss Patrick Swayze…Dirty Dancing…I knew every dance move…sigh…ok moving on. Sorry about that little tangent. Back to my welcome wreath.

All wrapped up…on to the next one.

The flowers are geraniums, fake of course, I only needed one grouping (not sure if that’s the proper terminology – gathering? bouquet? – I don’t know, but you know what I mean – gosh I shoulda checked the tag). I would use more if you have a larger wreath. I spent approximately $10. Cut them to length, arranged them how I liked ’em and glued into place with my trusty glue gun that I’ve had for like 97 years.

By the way, I love my owl mugs – couldn’t resist.

I really like this little chalk board and thought since this wreath will likely be hanging outside (under an overhang, but still outside) I would use a white paint marker to write WELCOME on it.

spring-wreath13

On to attaching the letters…easy peasy, just use the same twine that you wrapped them in and it all blends together then just tie in the back.

So you remember earlier when I said some of my beautiful ideas don’t turn out like I thought? Yeah well this was one of them. This is how it looked before I fixed it…

spring-wreath16

Not horrible but it was way too bare. The welcome sign was lacking appeal in my opinion. It just didn’t do it for me. So I added more greenery, repainted the sign and moved it. I actually used nail polish remover to get the paint off. It worked really well and gave it a more rustic weathered look, which I love!

Easy Spring Welcome Wreath

Quick Moving Update: The showing we had on our house this week went really well! B’s got a feeling that this is it. Anyway I came home the other day and everything from our basement storage room was covering every inch of the floor…it still is. Good news? we’ve got the packing started. Bad news? it’s messy! Good news? the adventure begins…

Overall this project took me a little longer to complete than I thought, but mostly that’s due to my obsession with making it my version of perfect and the fact that it’s the very first one I’ve made. I will be making more!

Do you love wreaths too? Did you try to make one and have beautiful results or an epic fail? I’d love to hear all about it or see. Comment below or tag me on Instagram so I can check it out, I’m always looking for new ideas.

Wow! Your wreath looks amazing! I would have never thought to change the positioning of the sign…but it works so much better that way!

Thanks Toyin! I have to admit I looked at that wreath for a long time (about a month) before I decided how I was going to make it better. I had intentions of posting it much sooner but it just didn’t feel right.

I love it! The Welcome sign looks great on it. The twine wrapped letters is time consuming, but the effort is so worth it for the look. I have a wreath obsession, too. I’m running into a problem of storing them all.

Yes Beverly I think someday I will have a problem with them taking over too. By the way I’m loving all the crafty things at Across the Blvd. How awesome that you and your daughter can create together!

Thanks Ann! I love the look of the wrapped letters, totally a labor of love because you feel like your wrapping for a while…not hard to do though.
