So back in December I participated with a lovely group of ladies for a Secret Santa Gift Swap, blogger style. Part of our gift was to purchase a thrift item for no more than $5 to be flipped or utilized somehow.
We were granted free range to do whatever we’d like with the thrifted item. So with these faux wooden plates this is what I did…
For the plates…
I decided to use the backside as I felt they would hang better against a wall.
Using ModPodge glue craft paper of your choice to the plate making sure to smooth out any bubbles (a credit card comes in handy for this, just be careful not to rip the paper).
Use a program like PicMonkey to make a stencil for your quote. But if you don’t have a royal account, the feature I used for this is not free.
If you do have a royal account then here you go…
First things first – resize your image to 2400 x 3300 pixels, this is the size of a standard 8 x 11 piece of paper. For this project I flipped it so it would be landscape instead of portrait…whatever suits your fancy for the project you are creating will do.
Choose your font and type your words.
Next choose the “effects” tab on the text edit menu and on the drop down menu choose “Knockout,” next increase the intensity to make sure you can see your lines when they print.
Save this file to your computer and print the text on a heavy cardstock.
Again using your X-Acto knife and pair of sharp scissors (and pouring yourself a glass of wine, because this takes some time and patience) cut out your quote. My medium of choice for painting my stencil on? Why burlap of course!
Putting them together…
Using a drill bit, very carefully make holes just large enough for your rope to fit.
I had this great little knob I bought
for some reason awhile back, that serves as my decorative hanger.
This was such an awesome experience! Thanks to Sara at Shabby Grace Blog for creating this event!
